The Verve- Make It Till Monday
Before they released “Bittersweet Symphony”, The Verve were huge in the U.K. and along with Radiohead, Blur and Oasis dominated the mid-90’s rock scene. Then they released “Bittersweet Symphony” and blew up all over the world, including the U.S.. The only problem is they sampled an obscure symphonic recording of The Rolling Stones “The Last Time”. So Mick Jagger being Mick Jagger, he sued their asses and the next thing you know the band has no royalty rights to the song and it ends up in a Nike commerical. Moral of the story- Mick Jagger went to the London School of Economics and has better lawyers than you do. But long before that the band wrote “Make it Till Monday”, a great song that clearly rips off the melody from the Stones song “Moonlight Mile”.
